I noticed something odd this morning while trying to log in to Discord on my MacBook Pro using Firefox, from my typical location. I got a message about needing to verify my location because it seemed different than usual. This required me to check my email associated with Discord. When I tried logging into my Yahoo email, I was prompted to verify with my recovery email, which was strange since I logged in without any issues just yesterday. After verifying, I was able to log into Discord without further issues.
However, shortly after that, I attempted to access a local art group's website and received a message saying there were too many requests coming from my IP, advising me to try again later. All these signs made me anxious about potential malware. Why would two sites report my location as different, and why was my IP flagged for excessive requests? Am I at risk of my computer being part of a botnet? I'm unsure what steps to take next or where to find assistance. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like your issues may be linked to a VPN, which often causes location discrepancies. You mentioned that your other PC was connected to a VPN, which could lead to these types of messages, especially if you've been switching devices. Just to clarify, VPN connection is usually specific to the device, so it shouldn't affect your Mac unless you were somehow using the same shared network. But if your other PC's VPN is affecting your network's visible IP, it might confuse other services.

I understand. My Mac wasn’t using a VPN; only my other PC was. But I didn't think being on the same WiFi would cause this. It’s a little perplexing!
