I have an appointment to get my iPhone 13 Mini battery replaced, but I received an email stating that I need to update to the latest iOS before the replacement. I've been holding onto iOS 17 because I really like a certain 'today style' widget that Apple removed in iOS 18, so I'm hesitant to update if I can avoid it. Has anyone here gone through a battery replacement and been allowed to stick with an older version of iOS?

There’s a good chance they'll need you to update. It’s pretty standard procedure for most repairs now.
They will definitely require you to update. I had a similar situation when I was on iOS 17. They forced me to update.
That’s rough! Now I have to weigh the choice between getting a new battery or losing my favorite widget.
It might be necessary for them to update you to the latest iOS. They might need to run System Configuration to pair the new battery. Some components require the latest version to function properly, but I don’t think the battery itself strictly requires it.

What if I get the replacement right after a new iOS version releases? Do I have to go all the way to iOS 26, or would they let me stick to 18?
