Troubleshooting GPU Issues and Random Shutdowns on a Lenovo Legion 5

I'm having some major trouble with my Lenovo Legion 5 gaming laptop. After upgrading to Windows 11, I've been facing issues where the GPU crashes with a VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE BSOD after waking it from sleep. I've gone through lots of troubleshooting steps, such as reinstalling video drivers using DDU, cleaning the fans, and even underclocking the GPU. But the situation has gotten worse with random shutdowns where the fans ramp up even when the laptop isn't hot.

Now, it shuts off completely without a BSOD during these shutdowns. When I try to restart it, it often fails to boot properly. I've hard reset, swapped charging cables, and even tried using integrated graphics by disabling my Nvidia GPU. I suspect it's a hardware issue affecting both the GPU and the power delivery system, but I'm not sure how to confirm that or what next steps to take.

It sounds like you're dealing with a potentially serious hardware failure. Since you've already tried software fixes and basic maintenance, here are some additional steps. First, check your power adapter for any signs of wear or damage—if you can, try using another compatible adapter to see if that helps. You might also want to monitor voltages and temperatures using software like HWiNFO. Rapid spikes could indicate a problem. If your laptop has built-in diagnostics (often accessed during boot), run those to check for hardware faults. And if that doesn’t help, consider performing a hard reset: unplug everything, disconnect the internal battery if you can, hold the power button for 60 seconds, then reconnect everything. It might also be worth checking your BIOS settings to see if you can switch to integrated graphics, just to rule out issues with the Nvidia GPU.

I've tried some of these too, I just forgot. The adapter looks fine with no external damage. I even tested my sibling's adapter, which has the same wattage, but the issues still persist. Unfortunately, my BIOS doesn't let me switch to integrated graphics only; it only has hybrid and discrete modes. When I disabled the Nvidia card, the shutdowns continued. I mainly see a kernel power error in Event Viewer, which isn't helpful. Any tips on how to find detailed logs of what happens before a shutdown?

Voltage monitoring could give you some clues. If your laptop shuts down, check right before it happens to see if there's anything unusual. Good luck!
