How Can I Improve Cell Phone Signal at My Parents’ House?

My parents live in a heavily wooded area where my mom has AT&T service, but her cell phone signal is really weak—especially with a metal roof on the house. I recently got her a Samsung S22 to replace her old phone, which is cracked. The weird part is, while her old phone gets about 2 bars inside, the new one gets no service at all until she steps outside, where the signal strength doubles. I'm concerned she may not be able to call for help if she needs it. What are some ways I can boost her cell signal at home?

If your mom has internet access, she could try enabling Wi-Fi calling on her phone. Most smartphones support this feature and it'll let her make calls over Wi-Fi instead of relying solely on the cell signal. It's worth checking if that's an option!

That's a great suggestion! Unfortunately, it seems there’s no internet out there, which complicates things.

Look into getting a cellular booster. These devices can help amplify the signal, with an antenna placed outside the house and a receiver inside. Make sure to select one that fits the AT&T network. Just keep in mind that these typically need an internet connection to work effectively.

Yeah, I've heard those work well, but without internet, they might not be the best option.

You might want to check out options like a cellular repeater. It captures the outside signal and boosts it indoors. Just be sure it’s positioned correctly to get the best signal from outside. This could be a decent fix given her house setup.

I had a similar issue. Before switching carriers, I tested T-Mobile for a month and it had great reception in my area, even inside the house. Maybe check if AT&T is the best fit or if another carrier might have better coverage at her location!

Honestly, if there's decent reception outside, a good booster can make all the difference. I used one from weBoost that worked really well. Just attach the outdoor antenna to the roof, and it significantly improved the signal inside my house—much better than before!
