Hey everyone! I've got an old HP ENVY DV6 with 8GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD. I'm mainly looking to use it for watching videos and playing light games. I've been considering switching to Linux and came across Ubuntu and Fedora as some recommendations. Any thoughts on these or other suggestions?

Both Ubuntu and Fedora are solid choices! If you're new to Linux, definitely look into which Desktop Environment you might prefer. Backup your data before making the switch and enjoy the new experience! Good luck!

Honestly, your specs are decent! 8GB of RAM and an SSD should run Linux smoothly. Just remember to back up your important files first. For installation, I recommend using Ventoy on a USB stick so you can easily launch any ISO. Explore the different desktop environments available as well; you can customize a lot!

I’d suggest starting with Linux Mint. It’s beginner-friendly and feels a bit like Windows, making it easier to adapt. But, if you want something a bit more modern, Fedora is also a great option. I’ve used it and it works well for video and gaming too!

Fedora is a great pick, especially if you prefer a more modern experience. If you're looking for something similar to Windows, go for the KDE Plasma version—it’s user-friendly and visually appealing.

I've been using Mint Cinnamon for years and it’s perfect for what you’re looking for! It feels like Windows 7, which I love, and works fine for videos and light games. But keep in mind, while it works for me, not everyone has the same experience. Just choose what feels best for you!
