Is My WiFi Safe If I Can’t Change the Name or Password?

I recently moved into a new apartment where my landlord provides WiFi through Xfinity. Each unit has its own router, and I just need to use the password on the back of the router to connect. However, I can't change the WiFi name or password myself. Since there are about 50 other people in my building and even more nearby, I'm worried about security. Is my WiFi safe as it is, or should I reach out to Xfinity to set a new name or password for me?

Watch out for previous tenants potentially accessing your WiFi. You can change your password through your Xfinity account online or their app. Even though you can change the WiFi name, that’s not as critical for security.

If the password is randomly generated for each device, you're probably in good shape! But if it's a common default password for all the routers, you should definitely try to get it changed.

I can't create my own Xfinity account because it's under a bulk plan from my landlord. I can only contact Xfinity or my landlord for help.

The WiFi name being visible isn't a huge security threat on its own since network sniffers can find it anyway. Changing the password is wise, though, as previous tenants might still have access to your network.
