What AMD CPUs are comparable to the Intel i5-12400?

Hey folks! I've always used Intel's i5 chips and have enjoyed them. Now I'm considering some AMD options because I've noticed similar pricing for the AMD 12400/13400. However, I'm not very familiar with AMD's CPU lineup. Here's what I'm looking for: I need a portable system mainly for office tasks and some light gaming (like Minecraft at 1080p, but I'd love to try out some newer games too). I can only use a CPU cooler that's 70mm high at most, and I want integrated graphics since I'm not planning on upgrading my current setup. The laptop I'll be replacing is about 10 years old, so I'm not too concerned about the socket or RAM generation. Can anyone recommend an AMD CPU that would be a good match for the 12400?

The 5600G is pretty much the direct equivalent with integrated graphics, and it comes with a low-profile cooler, which could fit your needs just fine.

Thanks! I was looking at it; it's about 80 bucks cheaper than 12400.

If you're not planning to get a dedicated GPU, you should look at the Ryzen 5600G or 8600G. They both have integrated graphics that can handle light gaming.

Thanks! I actually intend to get a 5060 or 9060XT.

Just so you know, benchmarks from 'hardware unboxed' have shown that the 12400 has similar performance to some of AMD's AM5 chips. The 8400f has comparable performance too. For the 13400 and 14400, you can expect about a 10% performance bump over the 12400.

Consider the Ryzen 5 7600; it can work well with a budget-friendly B650 motherboard. Plus, it does support integrated graphics!

You might also consider the Ryzen 5600/5600X/5600XT, but those lack integrated graphics. The 5600G is a great option if you want integrated graphics, although it has slightly less functionality in terms of cache and PCIe support compared to some others.

Thank you for breaking it down. I'll probably look at 7600. It's actually a bit cheaper than 12400.
