Hey everyone! I've got a setup with a 3070 and a Ryzen 5 3600x, but I'm starting to feel the performance dip while gaming at 1440p. I'm looking to upgrade to an AM5 CPU, with a budget around $400 (maxing out at $500, considering I'll need a new motherboard and RAM that will cost about $200). I'm trying to decide between the 7800x3d and 9600x. I've heard the difference in performance is minimal at 1440p because of GPU bottlenecking, but I'm also thinking about future-proofing as I might upgrade my GPU down the road. Is it worth spending the extra $100 for the 7800x3d over the 9600x, or are there other CPUs I should consider?

I'd definitely go for the 7800x3d instead of the 9600x if gaming is your priority. The extra $100 is worth it in my opinion. Just keep in mind that your 3070 will likely bottleneck any high-end AM5 CPU, so some of that performance gain might not be fully realized until you upgrade your GPU later. If you're already worried about costs now, just wait until GPU prices kick in in future!
Honestly, if gaming is your main focus, aim for an X3D chip. Also, used RAM can be a good deal. Just make sure you can see proof that it works before buying. If you're near a Microcenter, check out the 7600x3d as well—it could be another option for you!
Prices for RAM have been really high lately! If you're sticking to budget constraints, the 7600X or 9600X will likely fit better. Just remember to check prices on RAM because they fluctuate a lot!

Haha, I hear you! The hope is to have more funds available when it's time to upgrade!
