How Can I Redesign a Website Without Hurting Local SEO?

I'm a web developer creating custom websites for small businesses, and I'm putting together a list of potential clients to reach out to. While browsing, I noticed many small businesses have websites that are just basic template-driven designs, but they seem to have good local SEO rankings. My concern is, if I offer to create a new site for them, could that negatively impact their existing SEO rankings? I know I can build a much better website, but I really don't want to harm their current traffic. What are some ways to maintain or even improve their SEO during the redesign process? If I keep their URLs the same and replicate their meta tags, will that help to retain their search rankings?

Changing the technology or framework won't directly affect SEO; it's mainly about the website's content. Make sure you have access to their analytics and focus on the high-performing keywords. If they have a blog, you should migrate that content carefully too, as it can be tricky but is still doable. Just remember: as long as the domain stays the same, and you replicate the important meta tags and content, their rankings should stay intact. Also, migrating the blog content is key!

Yes, you can do a redesign without harming local SEO, provided you do it right. Keep all the current URLs, ensure proper redirects if necessary, copy over all the important meta titles and descriptions, and maintain key content like business info and headings. A faster and better-structured site can actually help improve their local SEO!

Re-platforming without altering content should have no impact on SEO. Just ensure the metadata is intact, improve loading times, and you should be fine. It's all about how search engines perceive the site!

I usually avoid contacting businesses that already have strong rankings for web redesign. If they're doing well traffic-wise, that's a good sign. Plus, it's tough to guarantee that a redesign won't impact their rankings at all. Focusing on businesses that need help is probably a better route!

Just 301 redirect all their current URLs; that’s crucial. Keeping everything else aligned will help maintain SEO integrity. Plus, they might end up benefiting from the updated site!
