I've been using Linux Mint daily on a small 128 GB 2.5" SATA SSD, but I love it and want to make it my main OS. Currently, I have an ASUS TUF Gaming B550 with both M.2 slots occupied: one has a 512 GB Samsung SSD for Windows 11 (needed for games and work apps), and the other holds a 1 TB Crucial SSD for storage, games, and movies. I'm looking for advice on how to upgrade my Linux setup now that I'm ready to commit. Here are some options I'm considering: 1. Buy a larger 1 or 2 TB 2.5" SATA SSD for Linux. 2. Move Linux Mint to the existing 1 TB M.2 and get a new 2.5" SATA SSD for Windows. 3. Or maybe there's a smarter approach I haven't considered? Any help would be appreciated!

I went through a similar upgrade recently. I had a 2 TB NVMe for Windows and an extra 1 TB for other things. I decided to replace the 1 TB with a 4 TB NVMe so I wouldn't have to worry about space. For you, maybe upgrading to a 2 TB NVMe would be a good idea. You could turn your 512 GB into an external SSD, which won’t waste any space. Plus, having a backup solution or RAID setup with your drives could be beneficial!
I’m in a similar situation! I have a spare 2 TB M.2 and a 4 TB SATA SSD. Still deciding if Linux should go on the M.2 or the SATA. It’s tough with M.2 prices right now!
Check out some migration tips; there are great resources out there. Just make sure to only use root when absolutely necessary and be cautious about where you install software from!
If you’re using your setup mainly for media storage, consider a NAS. It could provide more storage and better data management than just upgrading internal drives!

That makes sense! I’m hesitant to replace my 512 GB drive since it's doing well for Windows. I'm thinking of either putting Linux on the other M.2 1 TB or getting a SATA SSD.
