Can I Use a Regular USB Mouse with a Blue iMac?

I need help with my boss's Blue iMac. He asked me to reset the computer and wipe the disk since he forgot the password and only uses his HP laptop now. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the Apple ID for this iMac. I attempted to reset the password using the terminal, but I ran into a lot of problems, particularly with the Magic Mouse, which has been terrible to use. I don't even know how to tell if it's charging—the charging light doesn't show anything when I plug it in. I'm considering using a USB hub that supports different types of USB connections so that I can plug in a regular USB mouse and continue formatting the computer. Will that work?

Regular USB mice work perfectly on an iMac. You don't need a dock; just connect it directly! In case you're curious, you can check the battery charge of paired devices via the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar on Macs in the future, which may help with the Magic Mouse issue.

But remember, the iMac has limited USB ports, specifically USB 4/Thunderbolt. If your mouse is a regular USB Type A, you might need an adapter or hub.

Yep, you can absolutely use a standard USB mouse with the iMac! No need for a dock, just plug it directly into one of the available USB ports and it should work right away. Most of that hardware is pretty straightforward.
