I'm trying to figure out how to connect my old home surround sound system to my smart TV. Right now, the system only plays CDs and DVDs. I'm hoping to get the TV's audio to output through the surround speakers as well. What kind of cable do I need to make this happen? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You should be able to connect your system to the TV using an Optical IN connection. It's a common way to transmit audio from a TV to an external sound system. Just make sure your receiver has the Optical input available, and then you can buy an appropriate optical cable to connect the two.
Here's a link to an optical cable that should work: https://www.amazon.ca/Optical-Digital-Toslink-Compatible-Samsung/dp/B0CXH6RM43. You can double-check the compatibility!
Make sure to check the back of your TV for audio output options. Usually, there are a couple of options, including a standard analog OUT and an OPTICAL DIGITAL OUT. Using the Optical Digital option can give you better sound quality. Just grab a compatible optical cable and you should be all set!
Thanks for the insight! I’ll check those outputs on my TV.

Is there a specific cable you recommend? I’m not very tech-savvy.
