Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my GPU and would love some opinions on whether it's worth it. I game on a 4K OLED, and while my 3070Ti handles things decently, I'm starting to struggle with more demanding games. I try to lower settings where I can, but I'm hoping to boost performance without cutting corners too much. I've also recently gotten into VR gaming, which is adding to my desire to upgrade. Here's my current setup:
- PSU: Seasonic FOCUS GX-750
- CPU: Ryzen 5900X
- GPU: MSI Ventus 3070Ti
- Motherboard: MSI MPG B550 GAMING PLUS
- RAM: G. SKILL RipjawsV series DDR4 32GB
- Storage: 512GB M.2 for Windows/apps and a 2TB SSD for games.
A friend suggested that I might need a 1000W PSU for this upgrade. Do you think that's necessary? With my setup, can I upgrade my GPU, and what do you think about getting either the 5070Ti or the 5080? I can get both at MSRP and I'm willing to invest a bit more for the 5080, but should I maybe save that money for upgrading my motherboard and CPU or my PSU instead? With memory prices the way they are, I might have to hold off on DDR5 for now. Thanks in advance for your advice!

I play at 8K with the 5080 and it's an absolute powerhouse! If you're strictly gaming at 4K, your CPU and GPU should work well together. If you choose the 5080, an 850W PSU is a good bet, but for the 5070Ti, you can stick with your 750W. Just keep in mind that if you do switch to DDR5 in the future, you'll need to change to AM5 and get a new CPU as well.
Thanks for the insight! Considering the RAM prices, I'm probably better off sticking with my current setup and would lean toward the 5070Ti. Also, after looking into it, upgrading my GPU will set me back about $1150 for the 5080 setup versus $750 for the 5070Ti. Plus, I've heard the performance difference with the 5080 is only around 15%, which makes me think the 5070Ti might be the smarter choice.
