Why is my FPS stuck at 60 on a 100Hz monitor?

I've recently formatted my PC and now I'm facing an issue where every game I'm playing is locked at 60 FPS despite having a 100Hz monitor. I've checked all the common settings: I ensured that V-Sync is off, and I'm using a DisplayPort cable which should support the refresh rate. I've also set the display refresh rate to 100Hz in Windows and disabled variable refresh rate options. If anyone knows how to fix this, I'd appreciate your help!

Don't forget to check your NVIDIA settings too, just in case. I believe AMD has a similar global frame rate limit option in their settings. Might be worth a look!

I’ll take another look, but I haven’t seen any option like that for the last two years using AMD.

Just an update: I found out the AMD software had set a cap on my frame rate to 60 FPS via the Radeon Chill feature. Make sure to check those settings if you're using AMD - that's a common culprit!

Make sure HDR is disabled in Windows settings. When HDR is on, it can lock you at 60 FPS. Also, try enabling Game Mode on your monitor and setting your games to fullscreen. Borderless windowed mode sometimes restricts FPS too!

Wait, HDR restricts FPS? That’s new to me!

Could you provide some details about your PC specs? It might help in diagnosing the issue better.

Sure! I have a Ryzen 7 7700, RX 7700 XT, 32GB RAM, and a 2TB SSD.

First off, make sure you’ve set your refresh rate correctly in Windows. Right-click on your desktop, go to Display Settings, then Advanced Display Settings, and select 100Hz. Sometimes, only specific ports on the monitor support higher refresh rates, so double-check that.

Yeah, I went through the same issue after reinstalling Windows recently! It's a pain sometimes.

Also, double-check that your cable supports 100Hz. It might have worked before, but it could be worth verifying.
