What are some video players that can play random files from a directory tree and support favorites?

I'm on the hunt for a video player that can play all the files from a specific directory and its subdirectories at random. I appreciate players like VLC that allow you to drag and drop files, but that's not quite what I'm after. I have a collection of TV shows organized into folders, and I often just want to randomly play any of those episodes. Ideally, I'd also like the ability to mark some episodes as favorites for easy access later. Plus, it would be super helpful if the player could remember my favorites the next time I open the app.

You might want to check out Plex! It has a shuffle feature that randomly plays your videos, which sounds like what you're looking for.

MediaPortal could be a good option for you. It's primarily designed for dedicated home theater setups, but it works well for what you need. Other alternatives include Plex and Emby.

You could also ask ChatGPT to help write a script that creates an m3u playlist, which you could load in VLC!

Have you tried using MPC? It should be able to handle your request.
