I'm considering a switch to Linux and have just put Linux Mint on a flash drive to test it out before fully installing. I'm thinking about setting up a dual boot system as a backup in case some programs don't run properly. My main game interest is FFXIV and some titles from Hoyo, but I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the information I'm finding about Linux. I've seen mentions of Proton and Wine for running games, but a friend managed to get some titles working without those. Also, I'm confused about having to redownload everything. Can anyone guide me on the best steps to take as I explore this new OS?

I’d recommend checking out Ubuntu or Mint—they’re user-friendly. Research different Desktop Environments and pick one that fits your style. Just be prepared to read a lot; you might find that tutorials or forums are more helpful than videos. Also, don’t forget to back up your data before you dive in!
Definitely start with a dual boot! It’s wise to keep your Windows option available while you figure out Linux. Make sure to check your GPU compatibility with the distro you choose; AMD and NVIDIA can act quite differently. Plus, think about how much space you can spare for Linux. If gaming is a priority, consider distros like Nobara (which is great for NVIDIA users) or Pop!_OS, as they are designed to handle gaming challenges better.

I already have Mint booted up; I just need to finalize the installation. Thanks for the tip!
