My PC has been freezing and rebooting right after I log in, and sometimes it boots but with no display. I swapped my 5900x CPU for my old 2600x and everything runs fine, but when I put the 5900x back in, it only lasted two days before the same problems reoccurred. Is my 5900x damaged beyond repair? Should I just get a new AM4 CPU? Here's my setup:
- Old CPU: 5900x
- Current CPU: 2600x
- Motherboard: Asus ROG Crosshair VII Hero ATX
- Boot Drive: Samsung 970 Evo 500 GB
- RAM: G.Skill Flare X 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL14.

If your CPU is still under warranty, I'd recommend checking that out. If it's expired, replacing it might be your best bet.
It sounds like it might be time to buy a new CPU. You could also try resetting your BIOS to defaults just in case it's an overclocking issue causing the problems.
Have you updated the BIOS before putting in the new CPU? It's crucial since updates can fix compatibility issues that might cause freezing.
Yeah, I've been using this CPU without issues for about two years.

I did clear my CMOS, but the problem persisted. I’ve never overclocked the CPU; I just used XMP for the RAM and did a little GPU overclocking.
