Considering Switching to Linux and Need Advice

Hey everyone! I've been hearing a lot about Linux, especially that it can perform better than Windows, and I'm really considering making the switch. My laptop struggles terribly; it barely handles anything, not even watching YouTube! The only game my setup can manage is Minecraft. For some context, I have an Intel Celeron N3350 processor running at 1.10GHz and 4GB of RAM.

Given my situation, could you recommend a Linux distribution that would work best for me? I've heard of several versions but only know Arch by name. Will my laptop even be able to run Linux well? Thanks for the help!

For older or slower laptops, I'd suggest looking into Manjaro or MX Linux. They both perform really well and are user-friendly.

Check out some general Linux tips on YouTube, like the 'Switching to Linux' guide by Explaining Computers. It’s super helpful! With your specs, you will see an improvement, but just know that browsers tend to use quite a bit of RAM. Linux Mint Xfce is still your best bet, though.

I've got Linux Mint on a laptop with only 4GB RAM, and it runs really well. You should be fine with it too!

I recommend trying out Linux Mint with the Xfce edition. It runs smoothly and is perfect for older hardware like yours.

Absolutely! I don't think you'll have any issues with it. It runs like a dream on a Celeron.

Great suggestions so far! I’d also suggest Fedora; it’s really smooth and easy to use. Though, personally, I’ve dealt with a lot of ups and downs with Arch, so if you're unsure, Mint might be your best starting point.
