I'm looking to upgrade from my Ryzen 3800X soon, but I don't want to spend a fortune—like £300—on 32GB of DDR5 RAM. Ideally, I'd like a motherboard with an AM4 chipset so I can keep my current setup, but I'm open to switching to Intel if it makes sense for better performance. What would you recommend?

I just upgraded to the Ryzen 5700X with a B550 motherboard, and I’m really happy with it! It's a decent step up from the 3800X without breaking the bank. If gaming's your focus, it definitely delivers.
If you're sticking with AMD and want something for gaming, consider the Ryzen 5800X3D or the 5800XT, but keep in mind that the 5800X3D was recently discontinued. You can still find solid performance with the 5700X or 5800X. Just make sure you get a B450 or B550 motherboard since they’ll support all AM4 CPUs, but you might need a BIOS update for the newer chips.
The 5800X is a fantastic choice if you can find it at a good price. The B550 boards are pretty affordable and provide good future-proofing with support for current and upcoming Ryzen CPUs. Just a heads up, you may need to update the BIOS for compatibility.
