Why is my new CPU mounting clamp so tricky to close?

I'm having trouble with my recent PC upgrade. I replaced my old setup (a Ryzen 5800X on an ASRock Taichi with a 5070) because it started shutting down unexpectedly. I assumed it was a power supply issue, so I replaced that, but the problem continued. I then thought it might be a motherboard problem since I couldn't find any AM4 motherboards, so I decided to upgrade to an ROG B850-A WiFi along with a Ryzen 9800X3D and some DDR5 RAM. However, during installation, the CPU clamp didn't seem to fit right, and I had to apply considerable force to close it. After checking everything, my PC wouldn't post, and I discovered a lot of bent pins. Was it supposed to be this difficult to close the clamp? Why did it feel that way for me?

Some pictures of the setup could help diagnose the issue. Make sure the CPU is installed correctly—there's usually a cut corner for proper alignment. If it's not fitting right, it's possible that the CPU was inserted incorrectly, leading to those bent pins. Also, just to clarify, the pins you mentioned are on the motherboard, right? Sometimes people get confused and mistakenly refer to the CPU pins if they swap chips around.

I've got the golden triangle aligned with the triangle on the CPU, so I think I'm good there. It seemed to fit well in the bracket, but when I locked it down, it felt off, like it was a bit too large or something.
