I've just bought a brand new laptop after using my old one for about six years, and I'm having trouble playing videos in HTML games made with Twine or SugarCube. I initially thought everything would run smoothly, but I'm finding that while the audio plays perfectly, the videos aren't loading at all in Chrome. I tested the games on my old laptop, and they worked flawlessly. I researched online and figured out that it might be due to the lack of HEVC video support, so I downloaded the HEVC video extension, but that didn't solve the issue. I can play the videos outside of the browser, but they won't work inside the game. Can anyone help me figure out what's going wrong in simple terms? I'm really not tech-savvy and am feeling pretty lost here.

Just to be thorough, if Chrome and Edge aren't working, it's worth trying another browser altogether. Since you're aware of the HEVC video extension, ensure you have it installed directly from the Microsoft Store. Sometimes, if one browser isn't playing nice, another might do the trick!
You're definitely not alone in this! A lot of users have similar issues due to Chrome's newer versions not supporting certain video codecs by default, like HEVC. I suggest you try running your game in another browser like Edge or Firefox. Also, consider toggling Chrome's hardware acceleration on and off; it can sometimes help with video playback problems.
I did try turning off hardware acceleration and I also gave Edge a shot, but I still ran into the same issue. I'm thinking about trying Firefox as another option to see if it works any better.
Have you tried using incognito mode in your browser? This mode runs without extensions and can help determine if something's interfering with the video playback. It's a good step to rule out any extensions that might be causing the issue.
I gave that a shot, but nothing changed. Honestly, I haven’t even installed any extensions on this new laptop yet, so I'm not sure what else it could be.

I tried Edge and had the same video issue, though Firefox is still on my list to test. I already installed the HEVC video extension from the Store, which is why this has all been so frustrating for me!
