Is Upgrading to 64GB DDR5 RAM Worth It for My New Build?

Hey everyone! I'm upgrading my PC with an R7 9800X3D and I've been using a Corsair 6000 CL30 32 GB RAM kit. Lately, I've found that 32 GB feels a bit cramped during heavy tasks. The only option I have right now is to buy a 64 GB 6000 CL40 kit for $499, but I'm concerned about the higher latency. I'm wondering if this upgrade is worth it and if I'll really notice the difference under heavy loads?

I think most general gaming can run perfectly on 32 GB without issues. The problem really starts with RAM-heavy games like Flight Simulator at high settings. You might run into problems using 32 GB there, though!

Going from CL30 to CL40 is fine for most tasks. Sure, the price is outrageous right now, but if you need the extra capacity, it could be a good move. Just remember that higher latency might not be a huge deal under heavy workloads unless you’re doing something extremely intensive.

Yeah, prices are just nuts! I'm even thinking about sticking with my 32 GB for now because lowering settings might be better than breaking the bank for RAM.

Honestly, it seems like 32 GB should be enough for gaming. What are you finding demanding enough to hit that limit?

I'm mainly playing Flight Simulator with Vatsim and heavy scenery. It easily eats up 28-30 GB at 2K resolution on high settings, which can cause stutters when pushed.
