What Were RAM Prices Like Before the Recent Surge?

I built my last gaming PC back in 2015, and over the years, I've mostly used my laptops for work and study. Recently, my job has started pushing me toward needing a more powerful desktop, so I started checking PC prices again, and I was shocked by what I found. Back in late October, I was eyeing a build with an R7-9800X3D, 32GB of RAM, a 1TB NVMe SSD, and an RTX 5080 listed at around $2,788 AUD. Fast forward to Black Friday, and the same system had jumped to nearly $4,000 AUD, which was surprising since I thought there would be sales. I noticed a lot of chatter about RAM prices rising, and I'm curious—what were RAM prices like before this current increase? Were they already high in late October, or did the spike happen more recently?

Just last year, I upgraded my RAM to a 2x16GB DDR5 kit for around $240. When I built my PC for Christmas, I paid just $80 for the same type of RAM! Prices have skyrocketed since then, especially in the EU where it now costs around €440 for a similar kit.

Yeah, €240 for RAM sounds like a steal compared to here!
