I recently bought a Lian Li mATX case that came with a power supply for only $20, but it's only 400W. I want to know if this is enough to power my Ryzen 5600X and RTX 4060 combo.
The Ryzen 5600X has a 65W TDP, while the RTX 4060 is rated at 115W according to TechPowerUp. I've got a CPU cooler fan, six case fans, three SSDs, and various USB peripherals, so I'm trying to figure out if the 400W PSU will be up to the task.
Based on my calculations, the Ryzen 5600X could draw around 90W under heavy loads, and the RTX 4060 might require 115W max. Adding the cooler fan (5W), the case fans (30W total), SSDs (60W total), and USB peripherals (30W total), I estimate a total power draw of about 320W. Therefore, I think a 400W power supply might work, but I'm also considering the motherboard's power needs. Would love to hear your thoughts on whether I'm missing anything!

Honestly, it sounds like you might be fine with your calculations, but I’d still suggest upgrading to a higher wattage PSU if you can swing it. You could undervolt your GPU and CPU to save some power too!
You might want to use PCPartPicker.com to put all your components in. It will give you an estimate of whether your PSU is sufficient. Also, a good rule of thumb is to add an extra 50% to that total to ensure you have enough overhead.
Definitely! Overhead is key. A 400W PSU might not be enough for your setup, especially during power spikes.
According to a wattage calculator, you're looking at around 400-450W for your build, so you should be okay, but keep in mind power spikes. Consider undervolting your GPU just to be safe!
Keep in mind that TDP is just an average. It’s not the max power your components might draw. For the RTX 4060, I've seen it peak around 220W under stress, so I'd be cautious with your PSU. A more reliable choice would be to get a 600W power supply from a reputable brand.
Yeah, the quality of the PSU matters. A cheap one at max load can fail and potentially damage other parts.

Good idea! Undervolting can help keep the temps down as well.
