What should I do if my PSU exploded?

I was gaming earlier when I heard a loud pop, and it seems like my power supply unit (PSU) exploded. There's a burning smell, and I'm really worried about whether my other components have been damaged because of it. My PSU model is Gigabyte P650B. If everything else is still functional, I'm considering upgrading to a Silverstone Gold 750W PSU, but I've since changed my mind and now plan to get the Sama G 750W Gold instead. Is that a better choice?

First off, unplug everything and check for any burn marks on your other parts. If you can, test the remaining components with a new PSU to see if they're okay. The Silverstone 750W Gold is a solid choice—much more reliable than your previous Gigabyte model.

Yeah, Gigabyte PSUs are known for these kinds of failures. I hope it didn't fry any other components. I'd suggest contacting their support to see if there’s any warranty coverage for damages.

Make sure to check out the PSU tier list for a more informed decision on power supplies; it can help guide your choice on a new one.

Regarding the Sama G 750W Gold, honestly, I’m not impressed based on the marketing choices I’ve seen. But it does have an A- rating on the PSU tier list, which is better than nothing!

I've had a similar situation before and replaced my PSU with a new one without any issues. Most good PSUs have safety features that protect other components, and they often come with long warranties—some up to 10 years.
