Help! My Browsers Keep Saying I’m Out of Memory!

I'm really struggling here! My web browsers just aren't functioning correctly, and I'm constantly hit with an 'out of memory' error on both Chrome and Firefox. I've tested my RAM extensively and ruled that out as an issue since I've never encountered this problem until now. I've run the system file checker, used the Windows memory diagnostic tool, and monitored my task manager without seeing any problems. Everything from my GPU to Windows and Chrome is up to date, and I've cleared my cache and browsing history too. Even after all that, I get the error with just a couple of tabs open. I've restarted everything multiple times and specifically for Chrome, I enabled memory saver, limited my extensions to just Google Offline, and turned off hardware acceleration. My memory seems to be fine since I can play games like Stardew Valley without a hitch. I'm going to run another full scan with Windows Security and try running some other programs to see if they have the same issue. I also have some detailed task manager information if anyone needs it!

First off, it sounds like you’ve been super thorough in your troubleshooting! Having 16GB of RAM and a decent CPU is usually plenty, but it's a good idea to check which tabs use the most resources. Close a few down to see if it gets better. If performance improves significantly by closing them, then you might want to consider limiting how many tabs you have open at once. If that doesn’t help, a fresh browser window might be the way to go.

Yeah, I totally agree! It's amazing how many tabs we end up opening without realizing how much resources they're eating up. I’d suggest keeping an eye on your task manager while you’re browsing to spot resource-hungry tabs.

You might want to consider that while you have sufficient RAM, certain programs and browsers can sometimes get bogged down by too many active processes. If your memory usage is hitting 100% while using Chrome, it could be a sign that your system could benefit from additional RAM. Have you looked into how much you're using during high activity? If it's close to maxing out regularly, that could be a good indication to upgrade.
