Best Budget Graphics Card for an Old ASUS M5A78L-M Motherboard?

Asked By PixelProwler93 On

I built a PC years ago using an ASUS M5A78L-M motherboard, and I'm having issues with the integrated graphics on Windows 11. Since it's an older setup primarily for basic web browsing and light tasks, I'm looking for a budget-friendly graphics card that can serve as a temporary solution until I eventually build a new PC. It's important that the card has either HDMI or DVI output. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Honestly, it might be a waste of money to invest in a GPU for such an old setup. You're already dealing with a hassle getting Windows 11 to work with that CPU—upgrading might just complicate things.

Thanks for the input! When I say 'get-me-by', I really mean it. I found this one for just $10. Do you think it would work? Any major reasons against going this route? [Link](https://www.ebay.com/itm/205351312490)

You should know that Windows 11 has compatibility issues even with the CPU on that motherboard. It could be a real headache trying to keep it up to date. You might want to consider whether it’s even worth the trouble.

Bummer... Appreciate the heads-up. I dug into my original post and found my case details. If I decide to upgrade the motherboard and CPU, is there anything I could reuse from my current build?

Considering your motherboard has PCIe 2.0, I'd recommend sticking to something budget-friendly and not too high-performance. A GTX 960 or even a 1050 Ti could work well. Both are older cards but should serve your purpose without breaking the bank.
