Help! Apple Cash Scam Took $300 – How Can I Prevent Future Unauthorized Charges?

I just experienced a serious issue with my Apple Cash account. Out of the blue, I started getting notifications about charges being made to my account, totaling about $300 in just 15 minutes from 'TikTok For Business.' I don't even use TikTok or buy from any businesses there! I reached out to Apple Support, and they directed me to Green Dot Bank, who locked my account but said it was too late to stop the charges. They told me I can't dispute the transactions until they officially go through, which seems ridiculous since I can't even dispute with the scammer. Is there a way to set up my account so that I have to manually approve charges, rather than them automatically going through? Thanks for any help!

It's strange that someone was able to charge your Apple Cash without your consent. Payments typically have to be authorized directly on your device. Have you made sure you didn’t accidentally purchase something? It might be worth filing a police report and disputing the charges with your bank since Apple might assume you're just regretting a legitimate purchase. Lots of people mistake their purchases and later claim they were fraud, so they may not take your claim seriously right away.

I hear you; something's definitely not right. I've had my Apple Cash set up too, without using it much, and suddenly noticed a declined charge from 'TikTok for Business' for $1.10. Really weird and concerning! I'm gonna keep an eye on my account, for sure.

Exactly! I had a string of charges too, all in a short time frame. And I only use my Apple Cash for friends and family. I'm puzzled as to how these went through without me seeing or approving them first. Why can’t we have more control like on Venmo? Totally agree with you!

First off, make sure your Apple account is secure. Check for any unknown devices that could be linked to your account. Apple has some guidelines on this that might help you out: support.apple.com/en-us/102560.
