Am I in Trouble for Searching a Sensitive Topic on School Wi-Fi?

Hey everyone, I'm a night shift janitor at a high school, and I accidentally searched a sensitive topic on the school Wi-Fi. My coworkers and I were discussing gun and drug laws, and later, a Facebook post got me thinking about the correlation between gun restrictions and shootings. So, I searched the phrase, "why does it seem like there have been more shootings the more we restrict guns" on my personal phone. My heart dropped when I realized I was on school Wi-Fi.

I didn't click on any web pages or look deeper; I just read the AI summary, which told me I was wrong. Now I'm worried if I'll get into trouble for searching that term. To be safe, I also searched something like, "anyone looking at the Wi-Fi history, I promise I was just curious." I'm really paranoid about this, and I just don't want to have to talk to anyone from the school about it. Are there any real consequences I should be worried about?

Very unlikely you'll get in trouble. The school's IT can see that you accessed Google, but they can't tell what you searched for. Plus, searching for information about shootings isn’t illegal. You're in the clear!

Thanks for the reassurance! I was really worried they'd read into it too much.

Nope, you should be fine! They really have to connect your device's MAC ID to your personal phone, which they probably won’t even bother doing. Plus, you were just looking up a stat, not instructions on anything illegal. So don't stress too much!

It sounds like a harmless question to me. I doubt you'd face any consequences at all. They can track what websites you visit, but not the specific search terms you used. You're good!
