My 94-year-old mother lives alone and has limited vision and hearing, but she is mentally sharp. She has a Vizio smart TV connected to her Xfinity cable service. Recently, the TV has been showing a "not connected to the internet" message and dropping her cable connection. She relies solely on cable and doesn't use any streaming services. We disabled the Wi-Fi on her TV, yet it still tries to connect, and the HDMI input doesn't stay selected. I suspect the TV could be trying to check for updates when it attempts to find an internet connection. I'm considering turning off this auto-update feature. Does that seem like a good idea? Will doing this help the TV maintain the HDMI setting consistently? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I'm feeling overwhelmed!

Typically, an HDMI source doesn't need an internet connection unless your Xfinity box requires one. If the TV itself is displaying a no-internet message, all you might need to do is switch the input back to HDMI whenever it gets kicked off. It shouldn’t drift away from that input automatically unless it’s set to do so. Double-check that setting!
You might want to check if the TV is set to automatically search for inputs. If it is, see if you can change that setting to stop it from switching around. That could help keep it on HDMI, and it won’t keep looking for a connection.
Thanks for the tip! I think that might be the issue. I’ll check it out the next time I visit her.

I can switch it back to HDMI, but it doesn’t stick on that setting. I really need it to stay put, you know? Teaching her how to do it isn’t easy with her vision and hearing issues.
