How can I run an EXE file on Linux Mint?

I'm using Linux Mint with ProtonUpQT installed, but I only know how to run applications through Steam using Proton. I can add a non-Steam game to Steam to run its EXE file with Proton, but I'm unsure how to use Proton with EXE programs that aren't games. Any tips?

You might want to try using Lutris; it's pretty straightforward and really effective for managing various programs, including those meant for Windows. It's even better than Heroic Games Launcher for some games I've tried!

Totally agree! Lutris has worked wonders for me with non-gaming apps too.

If you're looking for something specifically for non-gaming applications, you might also consider using Wine directly or Bottles as an alternative to Proton.

There's a resource page available that could help with this. Also, remember to take regular backups and experiment in a virtual machine first!

Good call on the backups! It's always smart to be cautious.

It depends on the programs you're trying to run, though. Not all EXE files will work with Proton. Are there any specific ones you're considering?

You can just add the EXE as a non-Steam game in Steam and run it via Proton like you would with a game. That's the simplest way overall, honestly.
