I'm a student using a ThinkPad X280 with an i5-10210U processor and 16GB of RAM, and I'm trying to decide which Linux distribution to pick for daily use. I checked out Ubuntu GNOME and loved the look, but I found it lacking in customization options. I'm looking for something more minimalist yet highly customizable. I'd really appreciate suggestions, even if they lean toward niche options!

Definitely look into KDE! You can try out either Kubuntu for a user-friendly option or Fedora/OpenSUSE for something more cutting-edge.
You might also want to check out Fedora with KDE, Mint with Cinnamon, or Lubuntu for an XFCE experience. Those options can help you achieve a nice aesthetic while still being customizable.
If customization is your priority, remember that GNOME allows for extensions—you can find thousands of them at gnome.org. Just keep in mind that GNOME isn’t minimalist right out of the box; it's designed to be built upon.
I'd recommend looking into these in order: MXLinux with KDE, Debian with KDE, and LinuxLite. All of them should be pretty good for what you're after!
You might want to give any distribution with KDE a shot for customization. It's pretty flexible!

So, KDE is definitely your go-to for customization, right?
