Is the RTX 5050 Worth Buying for My Setup?

Hey there! So, I've been eyeing the RTX 5050, but I remember it got a pretty bad rap when it launched. However, it's looking like my only option right now. I've got a Intel i5-9400F with a GTX 1650 Super, powered by a 400W PSU. I usually game on 768p single-player titles and lock my framerate at 60, so I don't think my CPU will hold me back too much. The only cards available to me right now are the 5050 at $290 and the 5060 8GB at $390. There are no AMD or Intel cards up for grabs, and my budget tops out at $300. The 5050 would be a solid upgrade from my current graphics card, and I won't need to change my PSU. Unfortunately, the used market here is shaky, and I'm not comfortable paying $300 to a stranger for a used card. While I know this isn't the best value, it feels like a reasonable choice for me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

If you can hold off a bit longer, go for the 5060 or 9060 for a better gaming experience. The 5050's a pass for me, it's not worth the investment compared to other options.

Have you checked eBay or similar sites? For around $300, you might score a 6750 XT which would outperform the 5050 by a large margin. Other retailers like Newegg could be worth a look too, even if you're okay with shipping.

Unfortunately, none of those services deliver to my area. I'm really restricted to buying new.

I'd save up a little more and go for the 5060 instead of settling for the 5050; it’ll provide better performance in the long run.

You might think the 5050 is a safe bet now since it's your only available option, but a used 3070 is so much better. I wouldn't drop $300 on that when you could potentially get a better GPU.

If you can afford to wait a bit longer, holding out for the 5060 seems like a better choice. It'll give you more longevity as it’s a solid mid-tier card. Just keep in mind market trends; prices may fluctuate.

You should definitely go for it! If the 5050 is the best option for you within budget and it's an upgrade from your old card, then it makes sense to grab it.

I get that, but I've been hearing from so many people that prices might just go up, so I'm feeling the urgency to act before it gets worse.

Honestly, I think upgrading your PSU might be worth considering. They're pretty affordable right now—around $50 for a solid 650W. You could then go for a 9060 XT 8GB for about $310, way more powerful than the 5050. But I get it, it's a bit more upfront.

That sounds nice, but unfortunately, it's not available where I live.
