Why is my gaming headset microphone picking up PC audio?

I'm having issues with my gaming headset where people can hear my computer's audio through Discord, Xbox Live Chat, and other applications that use the microphone. Even my microphone audio seems to be bleeding into the game audio when I check with my clipping software (MedalTV), which usually separates input and output. I can hear a faint echo of myself in the game's audio even though I've muted the mic. I haven't found anything useful online; actually, an AI suggested that a USB adapter might solve the problem, but I'm a bit skeptical about that. Does anyone have any ideas, or would a USB adapter really help?

It sounds like your mic might be really sensitive, or you have your headset volume cranked up to the max. You might want to try downloading a noise gate application—it sets a minimum threshold so only louder sounds are picked up, filtering out weaker background noise.
