Is My RTX 3070 Overheating or Did I Get Scammed?

I recently bought a used RTX 3070 ASUS TUF Gaming and noticed that it was running at 70 degrees Celsius when I checked it at the seller's place. However, when I play Cyberpunk at 2K without ray tracing, the temperature spikes to 80 degrees. My case is an NZXT H510, which I'm aware has some cooling issues. I was told that the seller replaced the thermal interface in 2024. Am I being scammed, or is this normal?

What clock speed is your GPU hitting? If it’s around 1800 MHz, that’s pretty decent. 80C can be typical under load, especially in a hot case. Just make sure it’s not reaching dangerously high temps consistently.

Yeah, it’s running around 1800 MHz after five minutes; looks good to me!

The NZXT H510 isn't known for great airflow, which could definitely be impacting your GPU's temperatures. Since you saw 70 degrees at the seller's place, I'd say that's pretty normal, and the jump to 80 while gaming isn’t alarming considering the circumstances. Just keep an eye on it during demanding games!

Yeah, I checked the specs, and 80C is within a safe range. Some people run these GPUs hotter.

Thanks, that makes me feel better about it!

Sounds like the seller had a better case with better cooling. All things considered, if your temps drop significantly when downgrading to 1080p, it’s more about your case than the GPU itself. So you’re probably not scammed!

Exactly! The NZXT H510 is not great for cooling high-performance GPUs.
