I've been experiencing some issues with my CPU fans lately. They've been stopping intermittently for the last few months, and I've needed to clean them out to get them working again. However, now I've noticed a strange grinding noise. It happens in a pattern where there are 5 seconds of silence followed by two quick whirring sounds that repeat. I'm wondering if it's time to replace the fans or if there are other solutions to fix this noise problem.

Yeah, I’d recommend replacing them. The grinding noise usually isn’t a good sign.
I had a similar grinding issue once. My GPU was fine, but it turned out a fan cable was hitting one of the CPU cooler blades. Check to see if the wiring is secure and not touching the fan blades. If the noise continues after that, new fans might be the best move.
It sounds like the bearings in your fans might be wearing out, especially if they’re old. Fans are pretty inexpensive, so it’s worth considering a replacement. If you share the model number of the fan or CPU cooler, we could help find a compatible fan for you!
Sounds like you might just need some new fans. Trust me, that’s what ultimately caused my last EVGA video card to fail.
