I've made the switch from Windows 10 to Mint and I'm really enjoying it. Most programs either work on Mint or there are solid alternatives available. However, I have a OneNote notebook (offline, not cloud-based) with important notes that I want to keep safe. Can anyone recommend good alternatives for strictly note-taking? I'm not looking for anything fancy like ink support or multimedia features. I tried Joplin but found it pretty buggy; my imported notes were messed up, I kept seeing both the notes and their HTML versions, and relocating files was a hassle. If you're really happy with Joplin, I'd appreciate hearing why you recommend it, but right now, I'm not too impressed with it.

Obsidian paired with Syncthing works wonders for me. I highly recommend it! Just be aware the initial setup might feel a bit overwhelming, but it's super worth it once you get the hang of it. You might even prefer it over other options like Evernote!
If you haven't seen it yet, there's a site called AlternativeTo that has a great list of potential replacements for OneNote. Bookmark it for future reference!
If you want something really simple, Gnote is a fantastic little app for basic note-taking needs. It's lightweight and has always served me well!
You might want to check out Obsidian—it's been great for me! The transfer from OneNote could be a bit tricky, but it's manageable since it’s a one-time setup. Plus, once you get used to it, you'll really appreciate the flexibility it offers!
Thanks for the tip! I'm definitely going to give Obsidian a shot.
You could also try running OneNote through WINE, but I think that only works for cloud-based notes, not local files. Just a heads up!
I thought so! Let me know if I’m wrong, but I think local files are a no-go.

Thanks for that! I'll check it out.
