I'm trying to jump back into the Linux world after a rocky start with Mandrake on my home-built PC. Now, I'm looking to install a distribution on my 2016 Dell XPS 15 9550, which is still pretty solid with its 16GB of RAM, 512GB SSD, and dual graphics (Intel Iris and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M). I'm hoping to find a distro that has a good reputation for being easy to install and has minimal hardware compatibility issues. My goal is to use this laptop to learn Linux properly this time around. Any recommendations?

Most mainstream distros like Mint, Ubuntu, Debian, and Fedora should work fine on your machine. They have a solid user base and support.
Linux Mint is a great choice, especially for beginners. It may not be the last distro you'll try, but it's user-friendly and generally has good hardware compatibility.
I’ve had great experiences with Mint Cinnamon. It feels polished and should suit your needs just fine.
The GTX 960M could be a bit of a challenge. I'd recommend starting with a Pop!_OS live USB since it includes NVIDIA drivers. After that, you can try Mint and Ubuntu to see how those perform.
