How Can I Set Up a Lightweight Jellyfin Server on an Old Laptop Running Linux?

I've been experimenting with Jellyfin on my Windows desktop and I want to turn an old Windows 10 laptop into a dedicated Jellyfin server. However, the laptop is quite slow and doesn't run Windows well anymore. I'm looking for a simple, lightweight way to get it running on Linux since I have minimal experience with Linux (the last I used it was Edubuntu back in high school). My goal is to connect it to a NAS for storage and host Jellyfin from there. I'd appreciate any recommendations on how to do this effectively!

Debian without a graphical interface is a fantastic choice for beginners. It has a huge support community, and since Ubuntu is based on Debian, you'll find that most instructions apply equally to both. It’s a great way to dive into Linux!
