Hey everyone! I'm planning to convert my Android app to iOS, which means I need to get an Apple computer. I'm curious about trying out a Mac, but I've never owned one before. I need a laptop that can handle building apps without too much hassle. I've heard it's important to avoid older MacBooks that can't run the latest OS, as that could limit my development options. Also, I'm looking to buy second-hand to keep costs down. If you have suggestions, I'd really appreciate it! Oh, and if you know of any budget-friendly iPhones, that would be great too, as I only own an iPad Air from 2019. Thanks a lot!

I’d recommend getting an M1 Pro with as much RAM as your budget allows. If you’re considering a phone too, a second-hand iPhone 14 or 15 would be solid options. Also, have you thought about a Mac mini? You can get a more recent and powerful model if you don’t mind sacrificing some portability.

Would a 13" model work as well? I need an upgrade from my 11", but the price difference for used models seems pretty big. The specs look similar day-to-day, right? Is the performance really noticeable?

Look for any MacBook with an M1, M2, or even M3 or M4 processor, and make sure it has at least 16GB of RAM. Avoid Intel-based models or those with only 8GB of RAM, as web development can be pretty demanding these days. A MacBook Air, either 13" or 15", should do the trick without breaking the bank. These Macs are really powerful for app development!
