Hey folks! I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card to an RTX 5070 Ti, but I'm currently using an i7-10700K. I'm mainly into story-driven games rather than competitive online play. Here are my specs:
- CPU: i7-10700K
- Current GPU: RTX 3070
- RAM: 16GB
- Monitor: MSI Optix 165Hz 1440p
I'm curious about a few things:
1. Will my CPU significantly limit the performance of the new GPU?
2. At what resolution would this bottleneck matter the most?
3. Is the current setup still a decent match, or should I think about upgrading my CPU too?
Any thoughts or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

If you're sticking to story-driven games instead of AAA titles, upgrading your CPU might not be necessary right away. Your GPU will handle most of the load, and you probably won’t notice much difference during gameplay. Just keep in mind that your 16GB of RAM could also be a limiting factor.
If funds allow, consider a CPU upgrade in the future, like the 12th or 13th gen Intel chips—they're a significant leap over the 10th gen. But for now, if your games are running well, stick with what you have and enjoy the new GPU!
Honestly, you're still going to see a boost in performance compared to your 3070. Since you’re playing story games at 1440p, I wouldn’t stress too much about the bottleneck. Try upgrading and see how it feels before switching out your CPU as well.
There will be some limit from your CPU, no doubt. But at higher resolutions (like 1440p), it usually matters less. Since you mostly play story games, monitor your GPU usage while gaming—ideally, it should be near 100%. Don't rush to upgrade your CPU before testing it out with your new GPU first!
Thanks for the tip, I'll definitely keep an eye on that!
As you bump up the resolution, the impact of your CPU tends to lessen. However, I'd suggest considering an upgrade anyway. The i7-10700K might not keep up with the RTX 5070 Ti, especially in certain scenarios where CPU load is high.
I disagree! Some modern games can be CPU-intensive, especially if they use AI or have heavy data streams. Your CPU still matters, particularly in those cases.
What CPU do you think would pair well with the 5070 Ti without breaking the bank?

What's the market like for those newer CPUs? Prices kind of crazy right now?
