I'm working with a Lenovo E41-25 laptop that has 4GB of RAM and an AMD A4 processor. I'm on the lookout for a Linux distribution that will run smoothly on this system. My primary use cases include file storage (I've got a 500GB HDD), coding, and watching videos on platforms like YouTube. I'm somewhat familiar with Linux and have previously used Linux Mint, Endeavour OS, and Void Linux. I'm eager to hear your recommendations!

If you're feeling adventurous, you could try doing a custom install of Arch. It lets you piece together a very lightweight system. I set up cachyOS on my dad's old HP Elitebook, and while KDE is a bit slow, it still works. Just go for a lighter desktop environment, and you'll be fine.

You might want to check out OpenSUSE Tumbleweed with XFCE. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad with 4GB RAM, and while it’s not lightning fast, it gets the job done.

Messing around in a VM is a good idea! You could really slim down Gentoo, especially if you have another more powerful machine to handle some of the compiling tasks.

Linux Mint with XFCE is a solid choice! I've used it on systems with 4GB of RAM, and it performs quite well. Just a heads up, though – you might not want to multitask too much with it.

Have you considered Q4OS with the Trinity desktop? It’s really light—designed to run on older hardware, so it should work great on your laptop. You can check it out [here](https://www.q4os.org/index.html).
