Will Upgrading My GPU Cause a Bottleneck with My Current CPU?

I've got an Intel Core i5 11600K paired with a GTX 1660 Super right now. I'm considering upgrading to an AMD RX 9060XT with 16GB VRAM. Will my current CPU hold back the performance of the new GPU?

It's a mixed bag. You could see a small bottleneck at 1080p, especially in fast-paced games where high frame rates are a must. However, at 1440p, the chances of that happening drop significantly. So really, just get the new graphics card!

There’s always going to be some bottleneck in a PC, it’s just about which component is holding things back. In this case, your CPU and new GPU should pair reasonably well.

What kind of games will I be playing? Right now, I'm using a 1080p monitor with a 160Hz refresh rate, aiming for around 80-100 FPS on newer titles. Is that reasonable?

In some scenarios, you might experience a bottleneck, but it really depends on what you're playing and your setup. Instead of stressing over the term 'bottleneck,' I say go ahead and upgrade your GPU. If you do run into performance issues, you can address them then. You're not going to end up with worse performance, and upgrading is a safe bet!

For the most part, you should be just fine with that combo. A little bottleneck might happen here and there, but nothing to worry about.

Your setup sounds solid! It's time to level up and enjoy some gaming. It's always good to push your hardware!
