I'm currently using my PC for video editing, but I've been facing freezing issues in DaVinci Resolve. I'm unsure if this is a driver problem or if my setup simply needs more power. I'm working with 10-bit 4K footage from my Panasonic S5 and have already tried creating proxies and lowering the timeline resolution to 1080p/720p, but the performance remains poor, especially when using fusion effects.
Here's my current setup:
- Intel Ultra 9 285k (with Intel 200s Boost enabled)
- RTX 5070 ti
- 32GB 6000MT PC5-48000 CL36 DDR5
- Samsung 9100 Pro
- Crucial P310
- 1000W PSU
- Windows 11
All drivers and software are up-to-date. I'm considering adding a low-profile Intel Arc A310 to assist with playback and scrubbing. However, I know my CPU already has Intel QuickSync. Will adding the Intel Arc A310 really help, or would it be more hassle than it's worth? Alternatively, would just upgrading to 64GB of RAM improve my situation?

Before making any upgrades, check how much RAM DaVinci Resolve is actually using when it freezes. If it's only hitting around 30% with proxies and a lower timeline resolution, then that's a bit strange. Often, I've found that video editing software can benefit from more RAM, so starting with that upgrade could be a good move. It might just be a driver issue too since your GPU utilization drops to 0% during playback.
Honestly, I think adding more RAM should be your first step. It's often the easiest and most effective upgrade for video editing tasks, especially with high-resolution footage. A second GPU might not even be utilized by Resolve efficiently. Plus, with the Arc A310, you could run into compatibility issues.

Yeah, I agree on the RAM. If you're seeing high usage when the program is idle, increasing to 64GB could make a solid difference especially when handling larger 4K files.
