How to Transition a Microsoft Exchange Online License Between Accounts?

I've been helping a friend with her Microsoft admin console setup. Her previous IT provider had her email under an Exchange Online (Plan 1) license paid for through their MCA account. She wasn't comfortable with that, so I decided to get her a new Exchange Online (Plan 1) license under her MOSA account instead. I've also reached out to her Microsoft partner to cancel the old billing. My questions are: when the partner's license expires, will her account automatically switch to the MOSA license? Or do I need to manually transfer her email, even though both licenses are under the same tenant? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Since both accounts are in the same tenant, the mailbox won't move. The license just grants access. Once the partner's license drops off, you can assign your MOSA license, and everything should be fine. Just make sure to check the timing to avoid having both licenses unassigned, or she might lose access for a bit.

The new license won't automatically apply to the account with the old one. You need to wait until the existing license expires before applying the new one. There's no need to transfer emails or settings—the account should continue to work as it did before.

You are a gem! So, if I delete the existing license and apply the new one, that’s the right way to do it? She wants to completely cut ties with the MSP.
