Hi everyone, I'm in Canada and having a serious issue with my internet. For the past month, I've faced constant dropouts and despite switching my modem and companies (currently with Tech Savvy, previously Koodo), nothing has improved. A couple of technicians have told me that my coax cable isn't working and that the wiring in my building is too old. A supervisor is scheduled to visit soon, but I'm worried about my options without a functioning coax cable.
My building dates back to 1977, and the coax runs from the 9th floor down to the 2nd, where I live. I'm not tech-savvy—I just need reliable internet for work meetings. I heard that Bell might be an option since they don't use coax cables, and I have two phone jacks side by side. Any advice would be greatly appreciated since I'm feeling pretty lost right now. Thanks!

Sounds like a frustrating situation! It seems like the coax lines might be an infrastructure issue, so you might want to talk to your landlord about it. They might have the ability to address the wiring, especially if it's a building-wide problem. It's worth bringing this up with the supervisor too!
If coax is a no-go for you, definitely check if DSL is available. It uses phone lines, so you might be able to get connected through those jacks you mentioned. Starlink is another option, but you’d need to have a clear line of sight to the sky for that—which can be tricky.
Yeah, I don’t think Starlink would work since I don't have balcony access. I’ll look into DSL next, thanks!
I have a Rogers wireless internet setup where they mount a receiver outdoors. It could work well for you if there's a Rogers tower nearby. The speeds are decent for streaming, though your usage will determine if it’s sufficient. Just a thought!

That's what I was thinking! I'll definitely ask my landlord if they can help with this, thanks!
