My PC is failing to reach the boot screen, and I'm wondering whether the CMOS backup battery could be the cause. If I need to replace it, is there a particular CR2032 brand I should choose?

A dead CMOS battery usually causes the date and BIOS settings to reset; it normally won’t stop a modern PC from reaching BIOS or booting altogether. Since the computer isn’t getting to the boot screen, check the motherboard’s diagnostic lights or beep codes and troubleshoot the RAM, power connections, display cable, and other hardware first.

For a motherboard, any reputable CR2032 battery should work. Energizer, Panasonic, Duracell, or a decent store brand are all fine, so you don’t need to overthink the brand. Just make sure it’s the correct CR2032 type and install it with the positive side facing up.
