Can a 4-Foot Drop-Damaged 8TB Seagate BarraCuda Be Repaired?

My 8TB Seagate BarraCuda hard drive was knocked over and fell about four feet. It no longer works or appears to be detected. I bought it around 2018 or 2019 for about $82, but replacing it now would cost much more. I do not need to recover anything from it since it was only used for installing games; I would simply like to know whether the drive can realistically be repaired and put back into service.

A professional recovery company might be able to recover data or temporarily make the drive readable, but that is very different from repairing it into a reliable storage device. For game installations, buying another drive is almost certainly cheaper and safer than attempting a repair.

A hard drive that has suffered a physical impact usually is not practically repairable for normal use. The fall may have damaged the heads, platters, spindle, or internal alignment. Even if a specialist can get it working temporarily, the repair would likely cost far more than replacing the drive, and there would be no reason to trust it with future data.

The only way to diagnose the exact failure is to inspect or test the drive, but opening a hard drive outside a cleanroom can contaminate it and make things worse. Since you do not need the data, replacing it is the sensible option. If the computer does not detect it at all, that especially points toward physical or electronic damage rather than something software-related.
