I'm switching from Windows and trying to choose between Kubuntu and Fedora KDE Plasma. I want the freedom to customize the desktop extensively and use the system for gaming. I've heard Kubuntu may be more beginner-friendly, while Fedora KDE might be better for someone willing to learn and experiment. Are there meaningful differences in usability, customization, gaming support, KDE updates, or graphics drivers that should influence my choice?

Fedora KDE would be a solid fit if you’re comfortable learning as you go. It provides plenty of room to customize and grow, and its KDE Plasma packages and graphics drivers tend to be newer, which can be helpful for gaming.
I use Kubuntu and have been happy with it, especially for a straightforward beginner experience. However, Fedora KDE may be the better choice for gaming if you want newer KDE versions and NVIDIA drivers. The trade-off is that newer drivers can occasionally introduce bugs, so Fedora isn’t automatically better in every situation. Whichever you choose, keep backups and be prepared to troubleshoot graphics-driver issues if necessary.
Kubuntu is usually the smoother transition for someone coming from Windows because it focuses more on stability and having things work with minimal setup. You won’t go wrong with it, but Fedora may offer newer KDE and driver packages and generally has a stronger development pace. Both can be customized extensively, so neither limits your ability to customize the desktop.
