I'm trying to update the BIOS on my MSI B550-A PRO, but the update isn't working. My current BIOS/build date is 04/12/2021. I've downloaded the update, but when it appears in the list, selecting it doesn't seem to do anything. What steps should I check?

Use the BIOS file for the exact MSI B550-A PRO model, extract it from the download, and copy the required file to a FAT32-formatted USB drive. Then reboot into the BIOS and use M-Flash to select the file. You don’t run or click the BIOS file from within Windows. MSI’s support page also includes the current instructions and a walkthrough for using M-Flash.
Since your BIOS is from 2021, updating may be worthwhile, but make sure the file isn’t still inside a ZIP archive and that it matches the exact board name. Format the USB as FAT32, place the extracted BIOS file in the root directory, enter M-Flash from the BIOS menu, and let the process finish without turning off the system.
The file does appear in the M-Flash list after I download it, but selecting it doesn’t start anything.
